How we help business membership organisations grow their voice

Business membership organisations play a vital role in supporting and representing start-ups, SMEs and enterprises across each region of the UK.

As an agency, Osborn Communications has worked with both the members of business organisations and the managers of representative bodies to ensure their voices are heard.

It is common for many of our clients to be paying for memberships but not to be making use of the marketing and news sharing opportunities.

We soon put that right, giving them visibility and a forward strategy which delivers.

Public relations amplifies member voices, strengthens the company’s place in the economic picture and supports engagement with policymakers by highlighting the organisation as trusted representatives of local enterprise.

For the membership bodies, news updates help organisations to clearly demonstrate their value to their members by highlighting achievements, promoting benefits and highlighting support services.

How we help clients utilise their membership

Many businesses are keen to be members of a trade body or general business organisation but struggle to take up opportunities to actively share news through their channels or engage with the leadership.

We help manufacturers, service businesses, family companies and other clients by ensuring they send in regular updates to be shared through the organisation’s website, printed magazines and social media accounts, reaching potential customers, peers and industry leaders.

To go further, Osborn recently facilitated a strategic visit between a manufacturing client and their industry federation, demonstrating how we help businesses build meaningful relationships with key stakeholders.

We arranged for a senior federation executive to visit our client’s manufacturing facility, creating opportunities for substantive dialogue about industry challenges, regulatory developments, and collaborative solutions.

The visit enabled our client to display their innovation investments and environmental commitments while discussing critical sector issues including regulatory agreements and knowledge sharing opportunities across the federation’s membership network.

Our client’s managing director valued having a platform to demonstrate their growth strategy and explore ongoing federation support. The federation representative praised the client’s forward-thinking manufacturing approach, highlighting how such partnerships help identify and promote industry best practices.

By facilitating this engagement, we helped our client move beyond transactional membership to become an active industry voice, strengthening their position as a thought leader while creating pathways for ongoing collaboration.

Delivering sustained, high-impact results

As PR partner for one business membership body, Osborn’s multi-skilled team brought together journalism, strategic communications and content expertise to develop a strategy focussed around three core objectives:

  • Generating consistent media coverage through strategic press releases about new products, contracts, expansions or innovations, maintaining regular visibility in trade publications and local business media to keep the company top-of-mind for potential customers
  • Building industry authority by positioning company executives as expert voices through targeted media interviews, industry publication articles, and speaking opportunities at trade events, to establish their credibility within the key sectors
  • Creating integrated campaigns that combined traditional media outreach with other activity including social media engagement, digital content and online community building to reach both B2B decision-makers and end consumers across multiple touchpoints.

High-value media opportunities

A standout result was supporting a national broadcast appearance for the organisation leader, who appeared live on TV to comment on a hot topic.

The morning appearance was used in further appearances across the network, including the lunchtime bulletin and rolling news throughout the day. Osborn also secured regular radio interviews and three finalist award placings.

To prepare for a national government announcement, Osborn devised research activity to poll members, the results of which were shared with the media to generate news appearances and shape the news agenda.

Shortly afterwards, when the Prime Minister visited the region, a journalist raised the survey results in a press conference, resulting in front-page news coverage and extending the organisation’s influence at the highest levels. Overall, in just two months, Osborn secured dozens of pieces of media coverage.
